Today’s cup: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, E. coli, Pottermore, and U.S. Open golf

Do you remember your reaction the first time you learned about diplomatic immunity?  It was a cross between envy and outrage, no?  And partial disbelief that certain foreign ambassadors to this country could park wherever they wanted and not get a ticket?  Or break the law in ways far more damaging and get away with it?  Turns out that former head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, pulled that card out of his deck after he was arrested in New York City last month and … [Read more...]

Today’s post: Boston Bruins, Weiner to resign, Edwards mug shot, Giffords goes home, and coffee vs. tea

By the time I post this today, chances are good that Anthony Weiner will have resigned.  He’s holding a press conference at 2pm Eastern and, according to NBC News, his staff was already packing up his office.  What a stupid way to go out, and a waste for his constituents in Brooklyn and Queens.  Now what does he do?  It might benefit him to read Christine Carter’s blog post today at HuffPo about dads, doing more and getting more, since Weiner will clearly be the stay-at-home parent once his … [Read more...]

Today’s cup: Weiner distractions, the economy, the Mavericks, and The Tony Awards

Democrats are worried that the Anthony Weiner scandal will continue to distract them from the work at hand and senior leaders in the House want him to resign.  Friends and I bemoan Weiner’s disturbing tendency to take photos of himself with his Blackberry (go ahead and check out TMZ’s “House Gym Rat” collection), putting at risk a voice liberals have enjoyed hearing fight for injustice.  But while I’m snickering about Weiner, I’m continuing to get my work done.  We all are.  We’ve re-discovered … [Read more...]

Monday motherhood: it’s official

I’m distracted by this Anthony Weiner news.  One would hardly equate motherhood with a news story of this ilk, and I’m not.  But it’s Monday afternoon and I was going to write about aspects of being a mom - but first, we have to talk. Is it not clear at this point in the history of the World Wide Web that if you take pictures of yourself, or have them taken, there’s an excellent chance they’ll end up online?!  And if you’re a politician, it’s guaranteed to reach the media if the photos are of … [Read more...]

Today’s cup: Massachusetts tornado, Anthony Weiner, Mitt Romney, and MyPlate

Watch this video as a tornado takes shape in Springfield, Massachusetts on Wednesday.  Four people were killed in the storm and dozens injured.  Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency in an effort to help the search, rescue and clean-up of the areas in western and central Massachusetts that were hit the hardest. I don’t want to report on the Anthony Weiner/Twitter scandal but when Weiner was asked point blank on Wednesday whether or not the crotch shot sent to a college student in … [Read more...]

Today’s cup: European cucumbers, hackers, and the food pyramid will soon be gone

Laboratory tests have concluded that Spanish cucumbers are not to blame for the E coli bacteria outbreak in Europe that has now caused 16 deaths, so the origin of the contamination remains a mystery.  More than a thousand people have been sickened in Germany, where fifteen of the deaths occurred, as well as France, Denmark, Spain, Britain and Sweden. Sarah Palin’s Magical Mystery Tour continued in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.  Still no word on a presidential run. Moamar Gaddafi (new spelling … [Read more...]
