By the time I post this today, chances are good that Anthony Weiner will have resigned. He’s holding a press conference at 2pm Eastern and, according to NBC News, his staff was already packing up his office. What a stupid way to go out, and a waste for his constituents in Brooklyn and Queens. Now what does he do? It might benefit him to read Christine Carter’s blog post today at HuffPo about dads, doing more and getting more, since Weiner will clearly be the stay-at-home parent once his child is born later this year.
On a similar note, in the world of skanky politicians, have you seen John Edwards’ mug shot? It was released today; he’s smiling and we’re not sure why. Edwards was indicted on charges of using campaign funds to cover up his affair with that woman whose name I can’t spell nor pronounce.
Ayman al-Zawahiri was sweating out the decision on whether he would take over al-Qaeda after the death of Osama bin Laden. And then he got the call. “Hello Mr. Zawahiri. We’d like to offer you the position of Terrorist-in-Chief. The salary is non-negotiable but there is a bonus structure in place…” Jason Ukman at The Washington Post was kind enough to break down the job description.
Boston won!! The Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday night to take home the Stanley Cup and I’m going to let Kevin Allen at USA Today tell you why and how they won because I didn’t watch, nor do I know hockey. I went to an Islanders game once when I was living in New York and to this day have not seen a fight so ridiculously entertaining. Great stuff.
Syrians are literally running for their lives as President Bashar al-Assad is rumored to be widening his crackdown on anti-government protesters. The Syrian army, already responsible for the deaths of over 1200 civilians, are broadening their reach in the north of the country as Turkey continues to receive refugees from the crisis.
Gabrielle Giffords went home from the hospital on Wednesday to continue her recovery at the suburban Houston home of her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly. Congresswoman Giffords was shot in the head outside an Arizona supermarket in January. Though she still has difficulty speaking, her recovery continues to impress doctors.
IBM turns 100 today and it’s worth celebrating. Look at the milestones in the company’s history for a sense and appreciation of the technology Big Blue has brought to our lives, from computers to bar codes to its Smarter Planet initiative.
Lifehacker.com has done something crazy today by including an article from Melanie Pinola titled “The Coffee Lovers Guide to Tea”. It sounds oxymoronic, even though I really do have nothing against the herbal beverage that some of my closest friends choose over a cup of joe. Go ahead and give it a read if you must.
Potty humor is right up my alley. This video is two seconds long and includes a dog. It’s stupid, stupid, and stupid. You’re welcome and I’m sorry.
I fear it could be a desultory day.
