My Tuesday take: gay rights through the eyes of a child

A ‘Monday motherhood’ post didn’t happen for two reasons: Dad is out of town and soccer can be complicated.  In other words, I’ve been a single parent for the last several days now and sometimes, in club sports, we meet a new kind of ‘crazy’.  I won’t bore you with the details because, well, they’re boring.  And single parents are everywhere, making things work.  Instead, let’s talk about yet another magazine cover, but not one that includes suckling. President Obama is apparently … [Read more...]

Today’s cup: the debt ceiling, the gay marriage bandwagon, and the upcoming NFL season…will happen

Trying to break down and then piece back together what’s going on in Washington regarding the debt ceiling feels like playing with a Rubik’s cube.  If I cornered an economist at a cocktail party to explain it all, chances are I still wouldn’t walk away with a firm grasp on the subject, much less any idea how to solve our fiscal woes.  Clearly, NOT raising the debt ceiling, thereby forcing us to default on loans, would be a very, very bad thing.  Worse is our current debt load at $14.3 trillion.  … [Read more...]

Today’s cup: our “friends” in Pakistan, Obama and gay marriage, the NBA draft, and a marathon dog

Today’s cup: Obama on the Middle East, and the end of the world

President Obama stirred up quite a controversy on Thursday by delivering a speech on the Middle East that suggests a return to the Israel-Palestinian borders before the 1967 war is necessary to honestly begin negotiating peace in the region.  Needless to say, Israel balked at the idea, which will make for an interesting, read tense, meeting Friday between Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who arrived in Washington this morning.  Full text of the speech can be found here.  … [Read more...]

Wednesdays with Wendy: Haiti and gay marriage

It was dark and rainy when I woke this morning to meet up with Wendy for our run.  I cursed her name when the alarm went off, had some coffee, laced up the Asics and drove to her house.  I would’ve run there but, were you not listening? It was dark and rainy.  We talked about our dogs because we always do.  There was chat about TBI Marco because there always is.  He’s amazing.  And then there was this: Let me just say, yesterday I wrote of flashlights and earthquakes hours before a massive … [Read more...]
